Chromatography, Proteomics
Biography
Dr. Krokhin received his Master of Science (MSc) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees studying analytical chemistry at Moscow State University (Moscow, Russia), specializing in ion chromatography. Following post-doctoral studies at Tohoku University (Sendai, Japan) he decided to learn emerging mass-spectrometry technique for the analysis of biological samples – peptides and proteins.
In 2000 he joined Time-of-Flight Laboratory at the Department of Physics and Astronomy (University of Manitoba) as research associate. Accelerated developments in proteomics in early 2000s required advanced applications for peptide/protein chromatographic separation, which became a major field of scientific interest for Dr. Krokhin. Today, his laboratory is in lead position in peptide chromatography and its proteomic applications.
He authored ~140 peer-reviewed papers, including publications in leading proteomic, analytical chemistry, chromatography journals. Since 2008, he carries independent research program (Internal Medicine) supported by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC). Working at Manitoba Centre for Proteomics and Systems Biology he established collaborations with many researchers at University of Manitoba and internationally. The list of his applied work includes studying SARS, COVID-19, Ebola viruses, and biofuel-producing bacteria, finding biomarkers for various human diseases.
